During the Spring 2022 semester, I attended Trinity College Dublin as a visiting student in the English department. I was drawn to the rich literary history of Dublin and the chance to study English at such an esteemed institution. I quickly fell in love with the country, using weekends to travel and make the most of the beautiful landscapes it has to offer.
Being away for a semester definitely had its challenges. My courses were structured in a completely new way and I often felt overwhelmed being in a new city with very little connections. However, it was the perfect chance to get out of my comfort zone and learn more about myself. I ended up making wonderful new friends and forming relationships with professors and faculty members. The latter has been incredibly helpful as I transition out of my undergrad experience.
At Trinity I grew as a writer, editor, and reader. My classes pushed me to think outside of the box of everything I'd already learned. I also had to "re-train" many of my ways of thinking to adapt to their style, forms, and customs. This helped me become a more well-rounded (and well-read) student. In Dublin, I grew as an individual. I had to be resourceful, self-sufficient, and outgoing. I challenged myself to make new friends, seize every opportunity, and also give myself proper time to reflect and be grateful for my time there.
